4. Functions of geotextiles
Separation TDF Geotextiles can be used as separating layers in road works and railway constructions. geotextile between different layers in the construction can prevent migration and mingling of materials but still allow water movement inside. Protection Geotextiles are widely used for protection in waste disposal systems and tunnel constructions.
Geotextile is ideal for protecting waterproof membranes and other sealing materials from puncture when fill material or loads are being applied. When placed between sealing material and other layers, the geotextiles withstand and distribute any local pressure from the layer above, to ensure the protected material is not stressed to failure. Filtration Geotextiles are widely used for filtration in road works, railway constructions and coastal protection. Geotextiles can retain particles while allowing free movement of water, separate two layers during intense hydraulic activity. So migration of layers is avoided and water flow is maintained with minimum pressure loss. Reinforcement Geotextile is ideal for soil reinforcement and retaining walls. Reinforcement function prevents vertical soil walls and steep slopes from collapsing. Normally it is used together with rigid material to get perfect reinforcement. Drainage Geotextiles are widely used for drainage in earth and construction works. Geotextiles are designed to drain excess water off the construction.
